Robe

Discover Robe, South Australia

Nestled along the stunning Limestone Coast of South Australia, Robe is a charming seaside town known for its beautiful beaches, rich maritime history, delicious seafood and relaxed coastal lifestyle. Once a bustling trading port, Robe has become one of South Australia's most loved holiday destinations, attracting visitors who return year after year to enjoy everything this special little town has to offer.

The Iconic Robe Obelisk

Standing proudly on the rugged cliffs overlooking Guichen Bay, the Robe Obelisk is one of the town's most recognisable and treasured landmarks.

Built in the 1850s, the 12-metre-high Obelisk was originally left in its natural stone colour. However, its pale limestone blended into the surrounding sand dunes, making it difficult for sailors to spot from out at sea. In 1862, it was painted with its now-famous red and white stripes, helping it stand out against the coastline.

For many years, the Obelisk served as an important navigational landmark, helping ships find their way towards Robe's harbour. Today, it remains a much-loved symbol of the town's maritime heritage and the inspiration behind our very own Obie the Obelisk!

In 1972, a distinctive star-shaped lighthouse was built nearby at Cape Dombey. With its unusual design and powerful light, the Robe Lighthouse became another iconic feature of the coastline, helping guide vessels safely through the waters.

So Much to See and Do!

Robe may be a small coastal town, but there's certainly no shortage of things to see and do!

The famous Long Beach is one of Robe's biggest attractions, offering kilometres of beautiful sandy coastline where visitors can swim, surf, fish and even drive their 4WD vehicles along designated sections of the beach.

For those who love the water, there's surfing, kayaking, fishing and waterskiing on Lake Fellmongery. Robe is also famous for its incredible southern rock lobster, locally known as crayfish, making fresh seafood an absolute must when visiting.

If you'd rather stay on dry land, Robe offers spectacular scenic walks along its coastal paths, with breathtaking ocean views, dramatic cliffs and hidden beaches waiting to be discovered. Mountain biking, exploring the local countryside and simply enjoying the fresh sea air are all part of Robe's appeal.

Golf enthusiasts will love the Robe Golf Club's unique 18-hole course, featuring six town holes, six ocean holes and six dune holes, each offering a different playing experience.

There's plenty for families and sports lovers too, with a fantastic football oval, tennis and netball courts, a skatepark and a wonderful little cinema. Lake Butler Marina is another lovely spot to explore, where fishing boats and recreational vessels come and go throughout the day.
